Bookwalter Rectal/Trans-Anal Surgery Retractor

The Bookwalter Rectal/Trans-Anal Surgery Retractor is a table-mounted self-retaining retractor system designed to provide stable, hands-free surgical exposure during colorectal, trans-anal, rectal and perineal procedures. Its mounting framework uses a 12″ (30 cm) field post, two 1″ diameter horizontal flex bars, a 12″ (30 cm) vertical extension bar and two 1″ × 1″ stainless steel post couplers, allowing flexible positioning of the frame relative to the operating table and patient position.

The working frame can be assembled from a 9½″ × 14½″ (23.8 × 36.3 cm) segmented perineal ring or an 8½″ (21.3 cm) internal-diameter small half circle ring, depending on the approach. Five standard multi-angle tilt ratchets attach to the ring and allow each blade to be angled and tensioned independently.

The included blade set covers a range of exposure requirements: rectal blades in ⅞″ × 3⅞″ and ⅞″ × 2⅞″ sizes, malleable blades in 1″ × 3½″, ½″ × 4″ and ¾″ × 4″ sizes, and 1″ × 3½″ Deaver blades. All components are manufactured from non-magnetic, surgical-grade stainless steel and are supplied in a dedicated sterilization box.

The system is supplied non-sterile and is reusable and fully autoclavable. It must be cleaned and sterilized according to the healthcare facility's validated procedures before use.
