The Bookwalter Retractor is a complete table-mounted, self-retaining retractor set for major open abdominal surgery. A 12″ field post, horizontal bar, post coupler and 1″ horizontal flex bar carry a medium oval ring and a medium segmented ring, with standard and tilt ratchets holding a full complement of Balfour, Kelly, malleable and Harrington blades. Manufactured from non-magnetic, surgical-grade stainless steel and supplied non-sterile in a perforated wooden box.

Product Description

The Bookwalter Retractor is a table-mounted, self-retaining retractor system. Instead of relying on assistants to hold individual retractors, the set anchors to the operating table and holds each blade in a fixed position, delivering steady, hands-free exposure and surgical field visibility during major open abdominal procedures such as nephrectomy, prostatectomy and laparotomy.

The mounting framework consists of a 12″ (30.5 cm) Bookwalter field post, a horizontal bar, a post coupler and a 1″ (2.5 cm) diameter horizontal flex bar. This assembly supports a medium oval ring measuring 10½″ × 14½″ (26.7 × 36.8 cm) and a medium segmented ring measuring 10½″ × 19″ (26.7 × 48.3 cm), allowing the retracting frame to be positioned over the incision and adjusted to the working area.

Two standard non-tilt ratchets and five multi-angle tilt ratchet mechanisms clamp to the ring and hold each blade at the selected depth and angle. The included blades comprise two Balfour blades, four Kelly blades in 3″, 4″, 5″ and 6″ lengths, three malleable blades and a Harrington blade, so exposure can be adapted to the depth and shape of the incision.

All components are manufactured from non-magnetic, surgical-grade stainless steel. The set is brand new, reusable and fully autoclavable, and is supplied non-sterile — it must be cleaned and sterilized according to the healthcare facility's validated procedures before use. Components are securely arranged in a dedicated, perforated wooden box for organized storage and processing. Retractor Maker manufactures the system in Sialkot, Pakistan and supplies it directly to hospitals, surgeons and distributors, with a minimum order quantity of one full set.
